Great answers, I enjoyed every one of them!
I don't identify myself as an XJW, mainly because that to me would be like acknowledging that according to the WT brainwash I'm an 'evil apostate', rather than an respectable and upright person. But when the topic of religion comes up, I don't hesitate to tell people about the way that I was raised in a dangerous cult, and that I've lost my entire family to it. People find it difficult to swallow, like it's a TV Movie of the Week, but when I say it was JW, people respond with complete understanding.

I feel bad about being a part of this...
by sibboleth inseveral years ago, approx 1995, i was a newbie elder - age 29 and was just doing the "yes man" duties around the hall.
there was the overbearing po who was the "king" of the congo and whatever he said was gospel... if he didn't like you - you were history... needless to say - i kissed his butt and moved up the ladder quite easily.
we had another newbie elder - in his late 40's - and he was a smart man.

Bless you for having human feelings even while you were under the brainwash. Shame on the evil leaders of the JW cult.

Our Christmas tree - still up. But only our friends here would get the significance of it being our second Christmas tree ever and the not wanting to take it down.

Growing up JW
by startingover ingrowing up a jw, i was well aware that a lot of people didn't care for my religion, especially growing up in a strong catholic community in the 60's.
my being a jw wasn't something i advertised, especially in my school days.
but that feeling was always there, that i was someone, who because of my religion, was disliked, even hated.. i sit here thinking what it would have been like to have grown up without those feelings.

Startingover, you took the words right out of my head and wrote them far better than I could.
Since quitting the evil religion, I've decided just to hate everyone, you know, to balance things out that occurred in my childhood. Of course I'm kidding, but the openness that I feel now, that I'm free to think and feel how I want is still such a new delight.

Do You Really Need to Know the Truth Again?
by Clam inare we better people when were looking for the truth, rather than when weve found it?
when i thought i knew the truth it didnt make me a better person, it didnt give me peace of mind or facilitate self discovery.
if anything it released negative qualities such as arrogance and misanthropy.

Dreamer, we're all in this together: grieving for our lost loved ones as though they've died! You need comfort while dealing with this, be patient with yourself because you are not to blame!

Would you say yes to a blood transfusion?
by Fisherman ini would like to get some honest answers about your position on blood transfusion.
as we get older, sooner or later we wind up in the hospital and the question they always ask is"...in the event.. would you accept blood?
" faced with that question, i answered no.

Yes from my husband and me. We will give blood too, one of these days. Interesting answers.

Congregation member lists: do they still use them? Current Dubz only!
by MinisterAmos infor some reason (read they are afraid that exiting jws will use them to "stumble" other bros.) my new congo will not issue the normal member list with names, addies, numbers and congo appointments; the same list that everyone uses to call their jw buddies over for a booze party.. i was switched to this new congo two or so years ago and since have heard of two other congos that have stopped distributing lists.
since i have only inquired of two congoes, i ass-ume that the distribution of "friends" personal info is now forbidden?.
please comment all you current members/faders.

I'll reply as my last meeting was only a few years ago. . .When we first moved to Colorado the secretary's wife, who is a realtor, asked us for our full names, address and phone numbers, she said it was for the congregation publisher list for her husband. Only elders and some servants were allowed to see this list, not us.
Withing 2 weeks of her request, we started receiving her advertising mailers for her real estate business, the only way she got our address was through her request. So apparently, SOME publishers were allowed to access the list for their own purposes.
